What goes on a rate card

The rate card form: language, standard rate with minimum and rounding, tiered thresholds, conference and daily rates, cancellation rules, and filters that narrow a card to a delivery or service type.

What the video says

Every rate card, whether it's a default, a template, or an override, uses the same form. Here's what goes on it.

  1. A card starts with a name you'll recognize and the language it covers. Leave the from-language open and it covers everything interpreted into that language.
  2. The standard rate is the core: what you charge per hour, your minimum hours, and how time rounds. Fifteen minutes, rounded up, is common.
  3. Rate thresholds tier the price by length. For example, eighty-five an hour for the first two hours, then seventy for every hour after.
  4. Not everything is hourly. A conference can be a fixed price. A full day can have its own rate. Jobs on a client's own platform can carry their own rate, or just use the standard one.
  5. Late cancellation charges live here too. Each rule is a reason, a window before the start, and a charge: a fixed amount or a percentage of the job's cost. For example, any reason inside 48 hours, the full amount. And rules where the client owes nothing, like a no-show interpreter.
  6. Rush and after-hours charges are on the card as well. They have their own video.
  7. Last, filters. Leave them empty and the card covers every appointment in that language. Pick a delivery type or a service type and it only applies there. That's how you price video differently from onsite.
